Barbara Martini

Professor at Universitas Mercatorum, Rome, Italy

Barbara Martini is a Professor at Universitas Mercatorum, Italy in Software Engineering and coordinator of PhD Program in Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. She is also Affiliate Professor with Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Italy.  After her Master Degree at University of Florence in Electronic Engineer in 1999, she worked as software engineer in industry for two large telco companies, Italtel and Marconi Communications (currently, Ericsson). From 2003 to 2022 she worked at the Italian University Consortium for Telecommunication (CNIT). At CNIT she coordinated research activities since 2009 in the field of network virtualization and orchestration in 5G, network control/management architectures and programmability, service platforms for networking, and security solutions for multi-domain networks and NFV deployments. Current research interests are mainly on 5G/6G network architectures also relying on ML/AI, intent-based networking, distributed learning in decentralized network environments with focus on manufactuing domain.  
Prof. Barbara Martini co-authored 120+ papers in top-notch scientific journals and international conference proceedings.
She has been involved in several national/EU research projects also with leading roles and in several job orders commissioned by industry, including Ericcson, ESA. She has been serving as Associate Editor for IEEE jounarls, and as Organizing Commette member in many flagship conferences in networking since 2018 and, recently, also with relevant roles such as General chair at NetSoft 2023 and ICIN2024, and Steering Commettee member of NoF.
